GKN Agrees To Return To The Negotiating Table
With IAMAW District 837
Three days after The International
Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers District 837 Members
rejected GKN Aerospace – St. Louis’s contract proposal on January 11,
2009, GKN notified District 837 they will return to the negotiating
table to discuss the issues at hand. The District had informed GKN of
the Member’s rejection of the offer by phone early January 12, 2009.
“The Machinist Union will use every resource
at our disposal to negotiate a contract that meets the expectations of
the District Members here in Missouri,” Mark Blondin – IAMAW
International Aerospace Coordinator said.
The IAM expects to work out the issues that
did not meet the member’s expectations in the last contract offer during
these follow-up meetings.
“The issue is not if the membership is
prepared to strike, it is if GKN is prepared to make significant changes
to those areas of the contract the Members are unhappy with,” claimed
District President Gordon King.
At stake are 966 Machinist jobs in St. Louis
along with GKN’s ability to continue a very profitable section of their
business.

Fraternally yours,
Gordon King
