Notice:
The Boeing Seniority Contract is still not available. The last list sent
to us by Boeing was marked "Proprietary" and, therefore, not legally
usable by us. We are working with the Company to get a usable list and
will post it as soon as it becomes available.
Some GKN members are experiencing an internal ieexplorer application
error when trying to access the GKN news online. This error is internal
to GKN and we can not fix it. A suggestion is to press F5 as FAST as
possible when the page STARTS to load. Sometimes, this will fix errors
such as that but not always.

At the Local Lodge A meeting, it was requested the District step up
communication for the GKN Negotiations as many members have not been
around for previous contract events. The District has a communication
strategy in place, however; it was set to begin October 25. That
communication plan has been moved up to begin this week. Between now and
the formal opening, you can expect to see weekly updates on this site.
After negotiations begins, updates will be more frequent. Click the link

All Members: The I.A.M. is
asking for your support in letting Congress know how you feel about the
recent decision to award EADS (a foreign consortium) the USAF Tanker
deal. This deal is bad for America, bad for our military, and bad for
the U.S. economy.
Please click here to send your comments via a site set up by a Senator from Kansas or click here to use the IAM link solidifying our concerns. You can use the pre-set words or write your own.
Remember, you have been instrumental in changing the course of military sales in the past. You can do it again! The direct link to the Senator's webmail is:

There is quite a bit of talk, and rightly so, on the upcoming I.A.M.
Grand Lodge Convention and the possible dues structure change that will
be debated. As many of our members do not attend the Convention, there
is a lot of questions about how a change can be made to your
Constitution. As previously reported in the SpeedFacts, it is the
function of the Local Lodges to elect Delegates to the Convention and
those Delegates are the ONLY people who can accept any changes. The
debate over what you expect of your elected Delegates is healthy for
your Union, however; we want you to know exactly what it takes to make a
change.
We have already posted Article II Section 3 detailing how Delegates are
elected. As further educational opportunity, we are now posting Article
XIX, which spells out exactly how changes are to be made.
To read the Constitution language on making changes, click here. As you can see, the only way to change the Constitution is to properly submit the proposed changes AFTER the Local Lodge has voted to accept the proposals in their respective Local Lodge meeting and followed the proper procedures to have their proposal submitted to the proper committee.
GKN Members: To view the issues your management is addressing as a result of the walk around last week, please click here. I want to thank the membership for being candid and honest during the shop floor visit. Your voice was heard loud and clear! I will be doing a follow-up with the membership in a few weeks to see if there has been any resolution to your issues.
